This Lamp is pretty much an “In your Face” Bold Statement piece. I just did not want to give it a simple lamp makeover and call it a day. This lamp is for someone who really loves to take risks!
I basically had a checklist for this lamp that it should be
- Something Never seen before (or at least something that I haven’t seen before)
- Bold colors
- Some sort of pattern that I would never expect on a lampshade
- And when you look at it for the first time it makes you think “WOW” this is really different!
Here is how the lamp looked before
Now you guys can understand why I wanted something so different since the Lamp originally was not even worth a second glance.
And with such a long checklist in mind, my work began.
For the shade part of the lamp I wanted a pattern that you won’t expect on a lampshade which is point number four on my checklist 😉
So for that I grabbed my masking tape and just started taping the lampshade.
And this is what I ended up with.
Now the hard part was that should I paint it or not ? But I have painted so many lampshades in my life that this wouldn’t be any different.
Then a lightbulb went off in my head that why not use Gold Leafing on the lampshade!
And so I dabbed on some Deocoupage and carefully placed the Gold Leaf all over.
And this was the end result.
When that was all set I carefully peeled off the masking tape. I sprayed some Aeresol Polycrylic spray to keep the Gold Leaf in its place since no one wants Gold Leaf flakes flying around.
Next the base of the lamp needed an uplift. It had to be a Bold color.
And you can’t get more bolder then this beautiful color by DecoArt.
I chose the color Aqua Waters from there Maxx Gloss line which in case you can’t figure out from the state of the bottle that I COMPLETELY LOVE.
The finish of this paint is this Glossy amazing finish which I love but without the hassle of oil based paints since you can use this paint with water.
How amazing is that. I think it’s Genius!
I gave the base of the lamp two coats.
Then when it was dry I taped off the lamp more then half way since I had something else in mind.
I wanted to use this beautiful Metallic Paint from DecoArt and I chose the 24K Gold.
Look at that liquid gold.
How delicious does that look?
This is where I got my Gold Leaf Inspiration from after looking at this pure liquid gold goodness.
So I gave the base a light coat and this is how it looked after just one layer.
You can build on the color as much as you want. I obviously wanted it to be super GOLD knowing myself so I gave it another coat 😉
When that was done it was just a matter of taking off the masking tape and attaching the lampshade back onto the base.
And that was it.
What do you guys think?
I think it checked off every single point that I had on my list. Won’t you guys agree?
