The first time I got to play around with clay (which I remember clearly that is) was in Second Grade. We used to have this arts and crafts Class and one day we got to make these clay necklaces. I remember vividly how fascinated I was seeing how these designs were created and that we got to paint it as well as apply a coat of shiny Glaze on to the necklace, which completely transformed it.
When I came back home that day, I showed my necklace to everyone and immeditaley went out with my Dad to buy my own pack of clay.
Materials Needed for this Project
Oven Bake Clay (been using this in all my projects)
Thin Tip Paint bursh
Leaf Shaped Bowl (optional)
Creating clay projects these last few weeks made me realize how I much I missed making DIY Clay Crafty Projects.
If you guys want to see my previous projects then do check out my Marbled Clay Bowls, Ikat Clay Coasters, DIY Cactus Clay Ring Holder, DIY Marbled Clay Bottle and Geometric Clay Coasters.
So these were the colors of the clay that I went with, two shades of green, pink, purple, orange, red and yellow.
I rolled all of the colours of clay into balls and then flattened them.
I placed it in the bowl again to see if it fully covered the leaf shape.
Since it didn’t, I rolled the clay even more so to cover the whole bowl.
Then I placed the clay on a flat surface and using the leaf bowl as my template, I cut accordingly.
And this is the pattern I ended up with, you don’t really need the leaf bowl to begin with since it can easily be made freehand.
I happened to have it on hand so I thought might as well use it.
With my trusty butter knife, I tried making a rough version of the “veins” on the leaf.
To make them more prominent, using the backside of my paintbrush I went over the “veins” again to make them a bit more deeper.
And you know it, none of my project are complete without a dose of Gold.
I went in with the Gold and painted all the “Veins” as well as the border of the leaf with my favorite Liquid Gold Gilding to give the leaf some LIFE.
Then it went off to the oven to be baked at 275F for 15minutes.
The final step is optional but adds a nice little touch.
I applied a thin layer of Sculpey Glaze to give it a little shine.
And there you have it.
A little home made Clay Leaf Decoration piece.
