So first off you need Cement for this project and if this is your first time using cement trust me don’t be scared from using it as it really is pretty easy to use.
Just follow the exact instructions written at the back of the cement branch you purchase and you will be good to go.
Be sure to use gloves and wear a dust mask before starting any project with cement.
I mixed the cement with a wooden stirring stick with the required amount of water.
I didn’t really need much as I was going to pour the cement in small containers.
So I wanted different shapes and sizes of cement planters and I created that by using disposable cups, a plastic lid and a Milk Carton Base.
Pour the cement in the containers, tap it out to release any air bubbles.
To create space for adding plants later on in your cement planters just place a few more disposable cups in the wet cement.
Push the cups as deep or as shallow you would want it and let it dry out for almost 24 hours.
The next day the inserted cups easily come out when the cement is fully dry.
To take out the actual cement planters just cut the outside containers and it will pop out.
This is how they looked before any paint.
You can sand them down if you want a smoother finish but I liked the way mine turned out hence I kept it as is and proceeded to paint it.
I really wanted a super colorful pattern on all my planters which is I painted an abstract patten.
It was all freehand and I quite enjoyed playing around with all the colors.
But you could also stencil, use masking tape to create a geometric pattern, spray paints etc.
The possibilities are endless.
DecoArt’s Outdoor Living Paint is specifically made for outdoor projects which is why I used these paints on the planters as I was going to put them in my outdoor space once completed.
To tie in all the planters together I painted the rims of all of them in the color Gold.
And this was the final result.
I love how bright and cheerful these planters turned out.
You can make these planters as big as you want or as small as you want.
For creating really big ones you can use plastic buckets as a mold for the cement.
But if this is your first time using cement I would suggest starting with smaller containers as I did with these adorable planters.
