Transform a Thrifted Nightstand in a unique way by decoupaging Gold Doilies onto it. This is a great way to update a dated piece of Furniture.

This little project was an absolute joy and I loved the fact it is so different from my usual style. And by my “usual style” I mean you should check out my Southwestern Table Makeover, Ikea Lack Table, and Marbled Bar Cart to get a sense of my style.

This Nightstand was in great shape and had no major damages or scratches.

Here is how it looked Before.

Materials Needed For Thrifted Nightstand Using Gold Doily

Gold Doily

Liquid Gold Gilding

Purple Chalk Paint

Mod Podge

So I really don’t do well with brown furniture and always need to update it with a bright pop of color which is why I chose this Purple Chalk Paint.

Tutorial for Thrifted Nightstand Makeover Using Gold Doily

Step 1

The particular chalk paint that I was using did not need any priming beforehand.

I only had to wipe down the Thrifted nightstand to get rid of any excess dirt before I started painting it.

Using a Round Paintbrush I applied the first layer of chalk paint and let it dry before the second coat.

When the first coat had dried I went in with another layer of  chalk paint to cover up any area which needed more paint coverage

Step 2

So then from there on the plan was to decoupage the Doily onto the top of the table and also the sides of the table.

I only needed about Three Gold Paper Doilies.

For the top corners of the table, I split one Doily into four equal parts and applied it on the four sides with Mod Podge.

Step 3

The last thing I wanted to do was to add character onto the table which I did by painting some Liquid Gold Gilding.

I painted the drawer handles as well as the front curves and legs of the table using the Liquid Gold Gilding with a thin paintbrush.

And that was pretty much it.

Simple and pretty straightforward.
