A step by step tutorial on how to paint a Dollar Store Vase into a Stunning Spring Inspired Vase just by using Glass Paints.
It has been so rainy and gloomy over here lately when all I want is for Spring to come already. I decided to take matters in my own hand and painted some Spring Inspired Flowers and Leaves onto a Dollar Store Vase so I could place some beautiful flowers in it when Spring is actually here.
The Dollar store is the best place to get all glassware and ceramic stuff as its pretty cheap and they have it in all sizes and shapes.
I absolutely love painting Dollar Store Vases and my Anthropologie Inspired Vase you should definitely check out for some more inspiration.
So without further ado lets jump right into today’s DIY project.
Materials Needed for Transforming Dollar Store Vase for Spring
Tutorial for Transforming Dollar Store Vase for Spring
Step 1
The Dollar Store honestly has the best collection of Glassware and Vases. Plus they are pretty inexpensive which makes them the perfect blank canvas for painting.
The star of this DIY project is these New DecoArt Glass Paints which are now available at Michaels.
These easy to apply Glass Paints have exceptional coverage and durability and will self-level for minimal brush strokes.
To start off the project my basecoat was going to be a mix of the Green and Light Blue paint color.
If I am using two colors and need to mix them I always pour it out onto a disposable plate, mix and then apply it to the surface I am painting onto.
Using a soft brush I applied the glass paints onto the clean Dollar Store Vase surface. These paints have excellent, opaque coverage in one coat for most colors.
I gave the vase two coats of the paint even though it didn’t need but I had already poured out so much on my plate that I did not want it to go to waste.
DecoArt’s glass paint new formula makes painting on glass easier than any other paint on the market today.
Step 2
So for the floral part of this DIY, I went with Yellow, Orange, and Coral Glass Paint Colors.
I honestly wanted to use all the colors on this project as these are available in 10 beautiful colors but I narrowed it down to only three paints for the flower portion and the same dark green and light blue which I used as a base for the leaves.
I also have a full video of the complete painting process so do check that out as well.
Step 3
I am by no means an Artist and all my flowers and leaves are completely freehand, abstract and not at all perfect which is what I absolutely love.
When all the design part was complete I wanted to add a little dimension to it which is why I painted a few beige-colored brushstrokes on the leaves and dots in the middles of the flowers.
I could have been finished at this point but you know me I like to get a little Extra.
Why not make it even more amazing with DecoArt Glass Paint.
This is why I went with the Black Glass Paint Color to give the flowers and leaves a beautiful outline using a thin-tipped paintbrush.
Just adding this small detail, in my opinion, made the design really Pop.
And there you have it guys.
All Done.
I let it Air Cure for 8 hours before using it. Or you could also bake at 375F for 40 mins in a non-preheated oven.
Then allow to cool with the oven door open. These paints are even dishwasher safe.
Just keep in mind that these paints are not for direct contact with food.
But there you have it my fun little Dollar Store Vase Transformation.
What do you guys think?
