This has got to be one of my most asked questions as to how I create my Ikat Chevron Canvas.
I’ve used this Canvas as a backdrop for a countless number of projects for example this
And a million other projects in which I have used this as my background but it would need a whole other blog post if I start listing it out.
So today I thought why not I show you guys finally on how I create my Ikat Chevron Canvas Art.
The supplies you need for this project are a number of different shapes and sizes of paintbrush and the paint colors that you want to use.
I started off by roughly sketching a chevron pattern across the canvas.
This doesn’t have to be perfect, even better if its uneven since it is also an Ikat pattern and the more messy it is the better it looks.
So I first painted the chevron pattern with the navy blue color and then with a thinner brush start dragging the edges out.
Blending out the edges as much as you can as you go along.
Then you keep on adding the colors as you go.
This is how my first round of colors looked like.
The ideas is first to create a base of the Ikat Chevron and then from there you build on top of it.
Try to blend in the colors as well by fanning the color out.
This is how my second layer of colors ended up looking.
Slowly and gradually as you start layering the colors on top things start taking shape.
Just keep layering and blending the colors in the chevron pattern.
You do need quite a bit of patience since you have to wait for the colors to get dry so you can add on top.
This was almost my last round of colors.
Keep on playing around with the colors as well as with the size of the paint brush.
I switched back and forth with the size of the brushes sometimes I used a very thick brush if I wanted the color to be dominant and then went in with a thinner brush to outline it.
Play around and have fun with it.
There is no right or wrong way to create Art.
In my last round I did add in Silver and Gold as well to give it that extra dimension.
And there you have it.
What do you guys think?
I love the colorful vibe of this piece.
