Learn How to Transform a Dated Storage Cabinet Using a Gorgeous Ikat Stencil. Stenciling is a great way to instantly transform any piece of furniture, Wall or even Floors.
Honestly, when I purchased this storage cabinet (which btw was for only $5) I did not expect it to look this good after just a little paint and stenciling.

So the story behind this piece of furniture is that I had been on a mission for quite some time now to find a storage cabinet that had plain front doors, no design or carvings or anything of that sort.
I had this gorgeous stencil that I wanted to use on it and did not want any other design to distract from the Ikat pattern.
Previously all the furniture that I had given a makeover had some sort of wood pattern or design like this Royal Coffee Table Makeover that I did recently or this Bright Colored Hexagon Table.
So you see why I was desperately looking for something super simple to stencil onto.
And luck was on my side because I ended up getting my hands on this fella.
It was in a pretty decent condition but had few scratches at the bottom and some on top.
But everything could be easily fixed.

Here how the storage cabinet looked Before
Pretty standard looking cabinet, simple, plain and exactly what I had in mind.
Tutorial for Storage Cabinet Makeover Using Ikat Stencil
Step 1
I wanted a really bright and bold pattern on the front of the cabinet and when I received my Cutting Edge Stencil it was like a match made in heaven.
The Ikat pattern is really forgiving even if you mess up, it ends up making it, even more, prettier, in my opinion.
The color I chose to paint the entire storage cabinet was Velvet Finishes Exotic.
It is this beautiful Coral color and since I wanted this cabinet to be really bright, Exotic was the way to go.
This time around I did not use a paintbrush brush because the cabinet’s size was far too big and I didn’t want to spend so much time on waiting and layering on the paint.
Step 2
When that is the case and I want to save up on time plus have a smooth finish I go with my HomeRight Finish Max Sprayer.
I have painted countless furniture pieces with this Sprayer and this gorgeous Coffee Table is one of the many examples.
Clearly, you can see how religiously I use my Sprayer, poor guy.
The results it delivers every-time is always so clean and smooth that even if I don’t want to I always end up using it.
Load up the paint sprayer with the desired color.
The cabinet needed two coats too fully cover the brown.
I also always before spraying have my spray shelter in place so that paint doesn’t go flying everywhere.
Step 3
Next comes the fun part, Stenciling Time!
For that, I used this gorgeous baby blue color which was the perfect contrast with the coral.
When the cabinet had completely dried I went ahead with the stenciling.
I placed the cabinet flat on the floor and with a foam roller brush, I painted over the entire stencil.
For stenciling, I normally pour the paint into a paper plate, dip the brush and dab off the excess on a paper towel.
Then I go over the stencil with the brush as it ensures that no color bleeding happens.
Step 4
When the stenciling was complete It was time to update the plain brown knobs on the cabinet.
I unscrewed the knobs and laid them out on a piece of cardboard. Using a gorgeous Metallic Gold Spray Paint I painted the knobs.
Look how shiny and pretty they look now!
After that, it was just a matter of attaching the knobs back on the cabinet and this Storage Cabinet Makeover was fully complete.
