Don’t we all have that one folding stool or a few lying about in the house just absolutely boring and plain.
If you think your stool needs a quick little upgrade then this post is definitely for you.
I am a person who loves color, pattern and quick projects on a budget. This project literally took me about thirty minutes in total and now I have a brand new Stool.
I think I got this stool from Target about three years ago and it was still in amazing condition, minor scratches here and there but overall still pretty good.
The only downside was that it was just too basic and lifeless.
Here is the Before shot.

Materials Needed for this Project
Rust-O-Leum Metallic Gold Spray Paint
Sponge
DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paint Red Pepper
DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paint Indian Turquoise
DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paint Lavender
DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paint Ocean Blue
DecoArt SoSoft Fabric Paint Fuchsia
Paper Plate
Scissors
First off I detached the top part with a screwdriver and then spray painted the entire stool in Metallic Gold.
It needed two coats to completely cover the black. When spraying start with a light coat and then add on the layers on need basis.
While that was drying I created my very own Mod Triangle shaped stamp from a piece of a sponge.
Trace with a pen first the type of triangle shape you want and then go in and cut out the shape.
Behold my little creation.
You could cut multiple shapes so you have a clean sponge for the different colors but I used the same one the whole project.
The fabric paint colors are all mentioned in my material supplies list above.
I poured just a tiny little bit of paint on the paper plate and with my “DIY” creation of a sponge, dabbed into the paint slightly and started stamping the base of the stool.
I alternated between all the colors as I went along.
I kept the original black base since I knew I was going to use so much color on top, it was the perfect blank canvas.
It took me in total half an hour, I did go over a few of the triangles again which I though didn’t look right.
Initially my plan was to stencil the triangles but the sponge was much more efficient and quicker plus the results turned out pretty good if I say so myself!
I gave it a couple of hours to dry and then it was just a matter of reattaching the seat back onto the stool.
And there you have it.
Short and quick and Oh So Colorful 🙂
Isn’t this such a cute little idea.
What do you guys think?
