I have been meaning to give my Dining Room Area a makeover for a while now but since we don’t use that space on a regular basis (I mean let’s be real, we all eat on the couch) hence it was being neglected.
It was more of a storage “dump” to put it nicely and when we moved to this place, we just started piling whatever was not so “important” in this little nook.
But it was high time now and in todays Part 1 of my Dining Room Makeover I will show you guys what I did with the Wall of the room and in my Part 2 ( which is now live, here is the post) I will be showing you guys a step by step tutorial on how I created this marbled effect on my existing Dining Table set.
Here is a little before of how this area looked.
Not the most visually appealing space! The wall was a shade darker than the rest of the space, even hanging any Wall Art (my attempt at making the space look pretty) wasn’t helping out the situation.
Clearly it was just a holding space for miscellaneous items including my kitty’s litter box which definitely had to go from that place.
So first things first, we needed to deal with the utterly boring, plain wall.
I partnered with Repeel Wallpaper for this project and I chose the beautiful Medallion Turquoise and Gold Removable Wallpaper.
Removable Wallpaper is basically a lifesaver for people who need a quick solution for there plain walls and especially for people living in rentals since painting walls is out of the question.
It was definitely what I needed to give this Dining Room the bright/cheery solution that It desperately needed.
Supplies used in this Makeover Project
Repeel Wallpaper in Medallion Turquoise and Gold
With the measurements of my wall, three rolls of the removable wallpaper were more than enough and if you guys are interested in Repeel Wallpaper they are available at Walmart and Wayfair.com.
So I’ve never installed Wallpaper, I’m more of a painting directly on the wall kind of gal. But I was looking forward to installing this pattern.
Repeel suggests that the best finishes to apply these wallpapers are on a satin or semi gloss finish so when you do remove the wallpaper ever, it doesn’t ruin the existing paint on the walls.
With that said I started my Wallpaper journey, first thing was to remove literally every piece of furniture, wall hanging and items that I had stored in that place.
It is best to do it with two people if Wallpaper-ing seems daunting to you but I found it really easy and simple, so I pretty much installed it all by myself.
I started with one corner of my dining room wall, slightly peel the backside of the wallpaper which already has the self-adhesive and apply it gently on to the wall.
As you start moving down you gently pull down the adhesive side and press the Wall paper on to the wall. I found having a side to side hand motion worked out better to get the air bubbles out and to fully let the Wall paper stick.
Repeel does send a cute little step by step on how to install the wallpaper, so if you are a newbie like me you know how to get it done.
For the next panel I did have to cut the design a bit on top so it would match perfectly with the one already on the wall but since it is such a forgiving pattern that even if I did mess up (which I did), no one can see it besides me of course.
When I would reach the bottom part, using the X-Acto knife I would cut the excess.
It did not take me long at all, with breaks and everything included I was done with this wall in under an hour and a half.
Just having this Wallpaper installed and nothing else made such a huge difference already in my Dining Room Space.
The next step was to transform my existing Dining Table (which you guys will see the full tutorial in next weeks post) and Chairs and add in some pretty decoration pieces that would fit the theme.
I also moved my DIY Abstract Console Table in the space with my Gold Flower Mirror since I thought it would fit perfectly.
And that is it.
I spent a whopping $5o on this complete transformation.
My Dining Table Set with chairs was practically free, since someone was moving out and they didn’t want it anymore and I jumped on the opportunity and bought it.
The Abstract Console Table I got for a killer price of $20
My Gold Vase was for $10
The Gold Flower Mirror was for $15
The decorative pieces I already had in my home so that brings the total cost to less than $50.
The wallpaper in itself are very affordable and if I do add that cost the whole makeover would still be pretty cheap almost less than a $100.
So all in all I am pretty happy with it!
